Humble Beginnings
Our History

The inaugural General Meeting of our association took place on 29 November 1977. It was here that we transformed from the Pretoria News Angling Club to the Classics Spinfishing Society. Initially, the Pretoria News Angling Club was more of a social gathering, with occasional fishing contests where luck, more than skill, often dictacted whether a fish was caught-or not! Enter Sam Huisamen, the Credit Manager at Ptetoria News and a very skilled artlure angler. He recognised the artlure potential in his fellow anglers and he spent months teaching them the art and finesse of the sport. His enthusiasm converted both casual and serious anglers alike, and thus, the Classics Spinfishing Society was born.

For the dedicated compettitve artlure angler, achieving National Colours is the ultimate accoclade. To aspire to this honour, club anglers must be affliated with a Provincial angling body. Our journey began with the Northern Transvaal Artlure Association, whch, following 1994, evolved into the Gauteng North Artlure Association. However, as of the 31 of December 2024, Classics Spinfishing Association transitioned from Gauteng North to align with the Limpopo Artlure Association in the Province of Limpopo South Africa. This move was sanctioned by SAALAA, the Governing Body for artlure angling South Africa, on the condition that we embraced a new name. During a special general meeting, we decided to rename ourselves Classics Limpopo Artlure Association.

For over 45 years, Classics has been more than just a fishing club; it has been a thriving community of artlure anglers. We take great pride in being a family-orientated club where everyone has a place, whether you are an avid competitor aiming for National Colours, a social angler looking for fun, or a beginner eager to learn the craft of artlure angling. There is a spot for you!
